Intro: Welcome to the French Made Easy podcast, where I give you all the basics you need to speak French clearly and confidently. I'm your host, Mathilde, and I'm a French teacher, mumpreneur, and bread and cheese lover. Join me as I dive into all things French for beginners, and deliver to you bite-sized and easy-to-follow lessons every Tuesday. Let's get started, "on commence"!

Salut à tous! Hi everyone. Welcome back to the French Made Easy podcast. This is episode number nineteen, numéro dix-neuf. In today's episode, we'll learn some new French words to describe the body in French.

I split this episode in two, so I don't overwhelm you with too many new words in one go. So in this episode, part I, we'll focus on the face, “le visage.” And in next week's episode, we'll focus on the rest of the body. Sounds good? Super

As always, make sure you download your cheat sheet if you haven't done it already, so you can follow along, it's free. After the lesson, go and download your exercises, so you can practice what you've learned. And it's also free.

Ok. Vous êtes prêts? Are you ready? C'est parti

Répétez après moi, repeat after me:

  • "le visage" (face)

  • It can also be "la figure" (face)

  • la tête (head)

  • la bouche (mouth)

  • les cheveux (hair)

  • les dents (teeth) 🦷

  • le front (forehead) 👅

  • la joue (cheek)

  • la langue (tongue)

  • les lèvres (lips) 👄

  • le menton (chin)

  • le nez (nose)👃

For this next word, have a look at the spelling, because it gives a hard time for every single beginner student!

  • l'oeil (eye)

  • Careful here, the plural is a very different word: les yeux (eyes) 👀

  • l'oreille (ear)👂

  • le sourcil (eyebrow)

  • les cils (eyelashes)

Alright, I think we've covered pretty much the whole face!

Let's repeat them all together, ok?

  • "le visage" (face)

  • "la figure" (face)

  • la tête (head)

  • la bouche (mouth)

  • les cheveux (hair)

  • les dents (teeth)

  • le front (forehead)

  • la joue (cheek)

  • la langue (tongue)

  • les lèvres (lips)

  • le menton (chin)

  • le nez (nose)

  • l'oeil (eye)

  • les yeux (eyes)

  • l'oreille (ear)

  • le sourcil (eyebrow)

  • les cils (eyelashes)

Très bien, very well done guys!

✍️ Now it's your turn: can you give me one phrase with one of the words you've just learned? For example: "J'ai les yeux verts." (I've got green eyes.)
