Bonjour à tous, hello everyone, and welcome back to the French Made Easy podcast. This is episode 199, numéro cent-quatre-vingt-dix-neuf.
Today, we’re learning some practical French vocabulary for when you’re at the train station. We’ll go through words and expressions with example sentences, so you can hear how those words are used in context.

la gare 🚉 (train station) → Elle est à la gare. (She’s at the train station.)
le train 🚆 (train) → Le train arrive à 10 heures. (The train arrives at 10 a.m.)
le billet 🎫 (ticket) → Il achète un billet pour Paris. (He’s buying a ticket to Paris.)
le quai 🚉 (platform) → Le train part du quai numéro 3. (The train leaves from platform number 3.)
le départ 🕒 (departure) → Le départ est à 8h30. (The departure is at 8:30.)
l’arrivée 🕘 (arrival) → L’arrivée est prévue à midi. (The arrival is scheduled for noon.)
le retard ⏰ (delay) → Il y a un retard de dix minutes. (There is a ten-minute delay.)
le panneau d’affichage 📺 (departure board) → Ils regardent le panneau d’affichage. (They’re looking at the departure board.)
le guichet 🪟 (ticket counter) → Elle va au guichet. (She’s going to the ticket counter.)
la correspondance 🔁 (connection) → Elle a une correspondance à Lyon. (She has a connection in Lyon.)
le bagage 🧳 (luggage) → Il a un bagage. (He has a piece of luggage.)
le siège 💺 (seat) → Son siège est près de la fenêtre. (His/her seat is near the window.)
le wagon 🚃 (carriage) → Ils sont dans le wagon 6. (They’re in carriage 6.)
le contrôleur / la contrôleuse 🎫 (ticket inspector) → Le contrôleur demande son billet. (The inspector asks for his ticket.)
