Intro: Welcome to the French Made Easy podcast, where I give you all the basics you need to speak French clearly and confidently. I'm your host, Mathilde, and I'm a French teacher, mumpreneur, and bread and cheese lover. Join me as I dive into all things French for beginners, and deliver to you bite-sized and easy-to-follow lessons every Tuesday. Let's get started, "on commence"!

Bonjour tout le monde! Hello everyone. 💖 Welcome back to the French Made Easy podcast! This is episode number 98, numéro 98!

So we are starting a new series! Common French Adjectives.

In today's episode, which is part one, you'll learn 20 common adjectives, and we'll do part 2, part 3 etc, with more adjectives later!

So I'll give you an adjective, in its masculine and its feminine form, because as a reminder, adjectives agree in gender and number with the noun they modify. And I'll also give you the opposite of that adjective.

As usual, if you're new to the podcast, make sure you have your lesson's cheat sheet in front of you during the lesson. There are no exercises for this particular lesson, but you can still head over to the French Made Easy library to access all the other exercises from previous episodes! All the links are in the episode notes.

Another note as well. I've been busy behind the scenes creating my French Grammar Made Easy course, which is a grammar course for beginners, and it will be launching very very very soon. So if you're wondering why I'm not publishing as many podcasts and wondering where I've been, I'm still here, but bear with me because I'm just deep into course creation at the moment.

Alright, now let's learn some adjectives.

I'll give you the masc. adjective first, and then the feminine.

  • grand, grande (tall) petit, petite (small)

  • jeune, jeune (young) ≠ vieux, vieille (old)

  • bon, bonne (good) ≠ mauvais, mauvaise (bad)

  • beau, belle (beautiful) ≠ laid, laide (ugly)

  • nouveau, nouvelle (new) ≠ ancien, ancienne (old)

  • pauvre, pauvre (poor) ≠ riche, riche (rich)

  • plein, pleine (full) ≠ vide, vide (empty)

  • vrai, vraie (true) faux, fausse (false)

  • facile, facile (easy) ≠ difficile, difficile (difficult)

  • bas, basse (low) ≠ haut, haute (high)

Et voilà! That's the end of today's episode. Thanks so much for listening, I hope you liked it. And I'll see you in the next episode for part II!

À bientôt. Bye. 😘
